If you are pregnant and thinking about your options, we understand that you want to make decisions that are best for both you and your baby. If you are considering adoption, our caseworkers are here to help you! We encourage you to reach out to us at 616-667-0677 for more information. Below is some basic information to get you started.

You Make the Decisions

From the first time you contact us, one of our experienced and caring staff members will walk alongside you. She will be there to support you, provide resources, and answer all of your questions. With modern adoption, the woman carrying the child makes decisions about what her personal journey through adoption will look like.

If you want a more open adoption, you will select the parents of your child and will have the chance to meet them. It will be up to you what kind of ongoing relationship you want. You might choose to start texting with them, or talking with them on the phone, or even meeting with them multiple times if you want.

After the baby is born, you are able to continue contact if you choose. It’s common for birth parents and adoptive parents to send texts or emails, exchange updates, and share pictures. You have many choices, including visits with your child.

Adoption plans can vary from one situation to the next. Your plan might be for just a little exchange of information and contact. Or, you may decide to have more contact and interaction over time. As you consider adoption, you will make the choices that are best for you.

If you want to, you can choose a closed adoption. You have the option to choose a family for your baby, or you can ask the agency to choose the best adoptive parents for your baby from among their waiting families. The adoptive parents will receive no identifying information about you, nor you about them.

There are many reasons a pregnant woman might choose the adoption option:

  • You want to provide a positive and safe environment for your baby.
  • You want your child to have a different upbringing with more opportunities than you had.
  • Maybe parenting isn’t the right option for you at this time in your life.
  • You might not have a good relationship with the baby’s father.
  • You might not be able to afford to raise the baby – possibly because you have other children.
